2008 Oversight Report
Map to Limington

The Moy Mo Da Yo Recreational Area Oversight Committee’s (MMDYRAOC) first year budget

included $9,525 to fund its 2008 infrastructure development plan and $6,500 for a startup recreational

program. In addition, the Committee applied for and received an additional $7,839.04 grant from the

Narragansett Number One Foundation. Additional funding, received through reimbursement of boat

registrations in the town, funded the operational costs and paid for a part-time attendant.

Projects completed included the building of eight heavy-duty picnic tables, refurbishment of the tennis

courts, the erection and modifications to a donated 10’ x 24’ building for storage and changing rooms.

We purchased eight heavy-duty charcoal grills and the hardware and floats for a new swimming float and

floating dock for the boat launch for installation in the spring. The installation of facilities for an RV was

completed and included lying of a septic line, power feed, a driven point well, and pump installation.

This allowed us to hire a wonderful host couple, the Presz’s, to oversee the day-to-day operations at the

beach. We began the construction of a scenic loop trail around the circumference of the property and will

complete it in the spring.

We held our second annual Limington Family Day and despite the threat of rain, everyone had a great

time. Free burgers and dogs were cooked by a group of volunteers, a family fun canoe race was held

(without paddles!), and games and activities were organized for the kids to enjoy. LivingStone

Community Church of Standish provided a bounce house, snow cone machine, and cotton candy, donated

200 hot dogs and gave away a $50 gas card. Child Evangelism Fellowship sponsored a booth with face

painting and bracelet making. Fairpoint Communications sponsored an animal balloon artist.

In our first year of operations, we sold 50 season passes, and 763 families and individuals enjoyed the

beach, boating, fishing, picnicking, horseshoes, and other activities. Two large groups rented the group

use area during the summer. Despite the rainy summer our operations income was sufficient to meet all

obligations and turn enough of a profit to start us in the black for next season.

I would like to mention that over 350 hours of volunteer time were donated by members of the Committee

and community. I would especially like to recognize efforts by Vince Kane and his brother, Harvey in

their dedicated and hard work on the tennis courts. I would like to thank Ray Coffin for his donation of a

large floating dock section that will be part of the new floating dock at the boat launch next year. It was a

privilege to work with all the volunteers who served on the MMDYRAOC this year.

We were disappointed that we were not able to get a recreation program up and running and the tennis

program that we planned and organized had to be cancelled as it took all summer long to get the tennis

courts done due to the rain and significant amount of work needed. The money reserved, but not spent on

the recreation program, went back into the general funds for the town.

For 2009, we have a lot of work to do, installing the new grills, building the swimming dock for the

beach, building and installing the new floating dock for the boat launch, and expanding the parking lot to

handle more families who want to enjoy the wonderful wildwood of Moy Mo Da Yo. We are also

planning to begin discussions with landowners of the properties that Moy Mo Da Yo Road crosses

regarding the possibility of widening and improving the road to make it safer.

Respectfully submitted, Howard Allen 2008 MMDYRAOC Chairman
