The Moy Mo Da Yo Recreational Area Oversight Committee’s (MMDYRAOC) budget included $9525 to fund its 2009 infrastructure development plan.  The Committee also applied for and received an additional $12,400 grant from the Narragansett Number One Foundation.  Additional funding, received through reimbursement of boat registrations in the town, funded the operational costs and paid for a part-time attendant and a full time RV host couple.

Volunteers were very busy this year installing charcoal grills and a security gate, surveying the property boundary, completing a 1-mile long walking trail known as “Abenaki Path”, renovating the outhouses, extending the boat dock and finding the right place to anchor the new swimming float.  Committee members come from many backgrounds and were able to assist with the various projects that took place.  Jim and Mike Braley (Braley Brothers Concrete) supplied the expertise with the gate and grill projects, Maurice Clark (surveyor, Sebago Technics) supplied the surveying knowledge and equipment, Gary Fullerton (septic designer, Sebago Technics) and Marc Raychard (Boy Scout leader) knew what to do with the outhouses, Max Brandt (Saco Trails) designed and created a perimeter trail with perfectly placed benches for wildlife viewing, Tracy Ames (landscape designer) and Anne Dunbar (treasurer) assisted with erosion control and Rose bush plantings and Howard Allen (engineer) assisted with design work and site planning for the grill layout and swim dock construction.

We were able to provide swimming lessons and tennis lessons during the summer months.  Vince Kane was our illustrious tennis coach once again and Melissa Kenison taught swimming.  We hope to provide more programs for 2010.  We are always looking for people willing to share their talents.

We held our third annual “Limington Family Day” and it was a complete success.  Canoes were donated once again by Southern Maine Guide Service.  Fairpoint Communications sponsored a balloon artist and a moon bounce (always a big hit with the little ones).  Hancock Lumber sponsored hot dogs and hamburgers.  Boy Scout Troop 315 setup their tent over the food tables.  East Limington Baptist Church supplied volunteers to monitor the bounce house.  Livingstone Community Church supplied volunteers for bracelet making.  Other donations were made by F.R. Carroll, Braley Brothers, Hannaford, Creation Tree Care Solutions, and Brackett’s Orchard.

In 2009, we sold 71 season passes and 3500 visitors enjoyed the beach, boating, fishing, hiking, horseshoes, tennis and other activities.  Despite another rainy summer, our number of visitors continued to increase.  We were able to meet all financial obligations and will start in the black next season.

Thank you to all who support us and are helping to make Moy Mo Da Yo Recreational Area a place for Limington families to enjoy for generations to come!  We look forward to serving you in 2010.
